Welcome to Middle School Drama! This class is designed to introduce students to the many different facets of the theatre, from performance on stage to mime to technical theatre and more. Students who are in this semester-long class will have the opportunity to specialize in a specific area of Drama/Theatre through the "Capstone Project", a focused examination that clearly demonstrates their understanding of a specific area of Drama and Theatre. This project will be selected during the first week of the class.
From the DoDEA course description:
Essential Objectives: Upon completion of the drama course, students should be able to:
- Understand the basic concepts of drama.
- Apply basic drama concepts to the activities involved in theatrical productions.
- Participate in play cuttings and one-act play presentations while developing individual character interpretations.
- Participate in group meetings in which another person’s comments or opinions are solicited.
- Clarify, illustrate, or expand on a response when asked to do so.
- Respond in a variety of ways to what is read, written, heard, or viewed.
To accomplish this, we will create a short radio drama; develop pantomime skills through a several-class workshop; write a play, build puppets and other set elements; and other performance and techincal theatre projects. Students will also be able to earn extra credit through participation in the One Act Festivals in December and May as well as Naples Drama's productions in November and April.
